Site Investigation and Remediation Strategy – New Retail Park, Prescot

The land was being acquired from the local council and pre-acquisition desk studies highlighted adverse ground conditions associated with shallow coal mining and former land uses.

A site investigation was triggered to assess ground conditions on part of the former BICC Cable Works and on an adjacent former sewage works.

Several phases of site investigation have been conducted with the development of a Remediation Strategy.

As part of the remediation of the site shallow coal workings will be consolidated with PFA/Cement in accordance with a Grouting Specification.

Chemical testing has identified the presence of a number of contaminants of concern for the commercial development including hazardous waste for disposal purposes.
