Site Investigation and Hydrographic Survey of the River Bed
Our client was planning to divert an electricity cable from the towpath of a canal aqueduct and place it below the River Lune.
A site investigation was considered necessary to assess ground conditions for the route of the diverted cable beneath the River Lune.
Part of the site investigation remit was to locate services along the proposed new route and also conduct a hydrographic survey of the river bed.
A comprehensive Health & Safety Plan was developed together with risk assessment and submission of method statements. As one of the boreholes was located within a residential area a letter drop was instigated.
The cable percussive borehole drilling was challenging due to the nature of the glacial drift along the River Lune valley.
Chemical testing was conducted on recovered soil samples and this highlighted the presence of asbestos fibres
