It’s been another fantastic year for Simon Leat and the team at Earth Environmental & Geotechnical Bath Office.
The growth in business and new projects has resulted in the need to expand. The new office location is ideally suited to provide the full range of Environmental and Geotechnical assessment, auditing, monitoring and remediation services across the South West Region, with easy access to the M5 and M4.
The team have been involved in a wide range of geo-environmental projects and ground investigation projects and have recently expanded their radon monitoring and detection services.
The South West’s natural challenges include high radon levels, particularly in the moorland regions of Dartmoor, Exmoor, Blackmoor Bodmin Moor and the Wendron Moors, as well as spikes from Barnstaple, up through Bristol and Gloucester towards the Midlands.
The new in situ radon monitoring equipment can be used for a wide range of applications including, monitoring for residential developments, commercial developments, retail and more… The Radon Monitoring probe allows for on-site readings to be immediately accessed, rather than sent to a laboratory for analysis, so monitoring and assessment times are significantly quicker.
Around the South West there are also development high risk areas around Bristol, Midsomer Norton, and east of Bideford, due to historical coal workings. The South West team has extensive experience in Coal Mining Risk Assessments for residential, commercial and industrial properties, and expertise in remediation design to work with the challenging ground conditions posed by coal mining.
Further west – Devon and Cornwall have historically exploited natural mineral resources, for example through clay and tin mining, and these can also present their problems for existing buildings, and potential developments. The Earth Environmental & Geotechnical Bath Office have experience of a range of quarry projects including brickworks, sandstone works, gypsum, cement works, surface coal mines, barytes, iron and sand/gravel.
Simon and the team have also been involved in the design and construction of former quarries that have been converted into inert, non-hazardous and hazardous landfill facilities.
